Holoedr for saxophone, trombone, accordion, piano and cello (2017)
The title was created from the Greek word hólos – "whole" (in the sense – "indivisible") and the ending -edr, which means “solid”, “shape”, “something that has a certain number of walls”, e.g. tetrahedron. The idea of the composition boils down to translating the holistic phenomena into music. By creating holistic arrangements, they build quality that cannot be deduced from the knowledge about the rules of the components that govern them. In other words, individual parts of the composition constitute an indivisible whole, and their sum represents new features, not resulting from particular voices.
Commissioned by ZAiKS The Polish Society of Authors and Composers.
